To Run

I finally got in to see the amazing Hans; my physical therapist. What a guy! I mean really! Professional and knowledgeable, he focused in on my goal to run and that's where he set the bar.

And so I ran

I ran for five minutes (granted at a snails pace) with no pain. None, nada, zip.

This is huge in a couple of ways: 1. I ran without huffing and puffing and 2. I ran in front of a guy who was assessing my motion and stride. I don't know if it's because I've spent so much of my life being a couch potato or if it is because I'm really self-conscious, but running/exercising in front of others is hard. I'm always afraid I'll embarrass myself or that the observer will, well, you know, be snotty, mean, or just plain rude.

I'm starting to understand that, while yes there are people like that in the world, most people want to encourage and if they see you making the effort, they'll give their support in some way. It could be something as small as a smile and a nod, a good morning, or even a "you go girl!" One just never knows.

Hans set up a test for me to do tomorrow at the track, then next week we'll set my training goals to not only strengthen my hip, but to make my run cleaner, sharper, and faster.

I wish I could hire this guy to be my running coach.

Woohoo! No pain is good. Isn't it great when you meet someone like Hans, who knows what they're doing and helps you meet your goals?

You'll be running that marathon before you know it.

Blessings,
Susan :)

Fantastic. Everything is more fun without pain. And super kudos to you for doing it instead of just giving up.
