Facebook
MySpace
Twitter
And a myriad of other means of communication/entertainment or, as I like to call it, stalking and slacking.
I have a MySpace because I like to stalk my brother and my niece, nab their photos, and see what they are up to. Their spaces can sometimes be amusing. For example, all of my brother’s friends on MySpace are women. If you knew my brother, you’d know why this makes me chuckle. You also know why I comment from time to time on his space, just to heckle the other, ahem, “ladies” there:
“Dude. You look so hot in that cowboy hat! We really gotta hang out soooooooon Kisses – Annie”
I have a Facebook because Girl and Boy have a one. I like to see whose talking to whom and I admit it’s been fun to see photos that other folks have taken of Boy. That and being able to threaten ”Don’t make me come down there!” whenever necessary.
When it comes to Girl and Facebook, I watch closely. Ever so closely. Be warned. This mama bear is not easily amused by foolish pranks, dirty talk, or cheesy come-ons. I’ve been around the block a time or two. Be warned.
There is only one problem with Facebook. There are people from my past who want to be my friend. Seriously. While there are a few folks I’ve been glad to connect with (even one from Blogger: HI Susan!!), there have been a couple attempts from others that I’ve simply denied the hand of friendship.
Case in point: the woman who sent me a friend request who never gave me the time of day in high school. Why would she want to be friends with me now? . Perhaps she’s changed. It happens. I’m not the same person I was way back when. When I looked at her profile I noted that she is married. Well, that’s cool. Under her interests she wrote: Men.
This is where my confusion deepened. If she’s married, why is she interested in men? Is she writing her dissertation on Men? Is her career man focused, as in sports, cars, or exotic dancers? Perhaps she’s a psychiatrist who specializes in treating men. Somehow, I think not. I decided I didn’t want to be her Facebook friend and denied her request.
When I told a friend about my denying this other persons offering of Facebook friendship she was surprised. I explained that just because a person sends you a friend request, you don’t have to accept it. She in turn told me that she would feel guilty denying someone.
I suppose that makes me a rather cold fish, but I don’t care. I don’t feel bit guilty.
Lastly, there is Twitter. I admit. I. Don’t. Get. It. Why would I want to know that Mom265 is going to the grocery store? Or that Phillip1968 just finished eating a P, B and J sandwich?
It’s my age isn’t it? Cause, I just don’t understand it.
