Cyber Time Killers

Facebook

MySpace

Twitter

And a myriad of other means of communication/entertainment or, as I like to call it, stalking and slacking.

I have a MySpace because I like to stalk my brother and my niece, nab their photos, and see what they are up to. Their spaces can sometimes be amusing. For example, all of my brother’s friends on MySpace are women. If you knew my brother, you’d know why this makes me chuckle. You also know why I comment from time to time on his space, just to heckle the other, ahem, “ladies” there:

“Dude. You look so hot in that cowboy hat! We really gotta hang out soooooooon Kisses – Annie”

I have a Facebook because Girl and Boy have a one. I like to see whose talking to whom and I admit it’s been fun to see photos that other folks have taken of Boy. That and being able to threaten ”Don’t make me come down there!” whenever necessary.

When it comes to Girl and Facebook, I watch closely. Ever so closely. Be warned. This mama bear is not easily amused by foolish pranks, dirty talk, or cheesy come-ons. I’ve been around the block a time or two. Be warned.

There is only one problem with Facebook. There are people from my past who want to be my friend. Seriously. While there are a few folks I’ve been glad to connect with (even one from Blogger: HI Susan!!), there have been a couple attempts from others that I’ve simply denied the hand of friendship.

Case in point: the woman who sent me a friend request who never gave me the time of day in high school. Why would she want to be friends with me now? . Perhaps she’s changed. It happens. I’m not the same person I was way back when. When I looked at her profile I noted that she is married. Well, that’s cool. Under her interests she wrote: Men.

This is where my confusion deepened. If she’s married, why is she interested in men? Is she writing her dissertation on Men? Is her career man focused, as in sports, cars, or exotic dancers? Perhaps she’s a psychiatrist who specializes in treating men. Somehow, I think not. I decided I didn’t want to be her Facebook friend and denied her request.

When I told a friend about my denying this other persons offering of Facebook friendship she was surprised. I explained that just because a person sends you a friend request, you don’t have to accept it. She in turn told me that she would feel guilty denying someone.

I suppose that makes me a rather cold fish, but I don’t care. I don’t feel bit guilty.

Lastly, there is Twitter. I admit. I. Don’t. Get. It. Why would I want to know that Mom265 is going to the grocery store? Or that Phillip1968 just finished eating a P, B and J sandwich?

It’s my age isn’t it? Cause, I just don’t understand it.

TXT messages – got it

Guitar Hero – workin’ on it

The television program, The Office - completely lost

Blogging – Oh yeah baby, I got it!

Love twitter. it's fun and I get to stay current with my internet friends. Which is more than I can say for my IRL friends! This blog is the only way I have of keeping up with you now!

I got sucked into Facebook last summer. It's been kind of fun. I just don't like all the passing of "gifts" and things. I just recently got into MySpace mainly because there were some individuals that I wanted to contact and this was the only way I could fine. I haven't even checked out Twitter. I understand what you mean about accepting and rejecting friends. I even had a spammer on MySpace. Everyone has their reasons, but I see nothing wrong with not accepting a friendship request.

I'm on myspace because I have sons I need to monitor from time to time because I.Love.Them.

Twitter? Nope.

Facebook? Nope.

Old? Out of sync? Probably.

I have come to your blog from Mr. Travis Ervin's Blog.

I have read some of your posts and would like to revisit.

I'm not on facebook, myspace, or twitter. Thank goodness I blog, or I'd be totally cyber-illiterate ;)

Hi Annie -

Twitter is still a mystery to me. Besides, I do not tote a computer around with me all day. I'm connected enough.

Facebook is becoming my favorite method of communication next to blogging. It's nice to send a brief note that everyone in your network gets in a flash - so much faster than email.

I'm glad you have me on the positive side of the equation. LOL!

Blessings,
Susan :)

You are hilarious. I have avoided these time traps so far, but every now and then I get an itch to check it out...
